Crises – always and everywhere. The Antrobus family survives them all. An ice age is looming in August? The Antrobus family secures their home and burns furniture to fight the cold. The deluge is coming? The Antrobus family boards an ark with all the animals. A world war is raging? The Antrobus rises from the debris and sets out to rebuild.
During World War II, Thornton Wilder creates a piece of apocalypse and hopes for humanity's vigor and will to survive. And so it continues to save itself time and again, sliding into the next, self-inflicted crisis, only to get away by the skin of its teeth.
Thornton Wilder the master of alienation among the US-American playwrights presents epic theater, absurd humor ... an emotional, extremely funny piece of theatrum mundi. After all, a catastrophy can only be survived with the tougue firmly in cheek.
