Open air/comedy by William Shakespeare
It all starts with a shipwreck! Viola manages to reach the shore of Illyria. She disguises herself as a young man. Viola becomes Cesario, who gets employed as a servant by Duke Orsino.
But Viola/Cesario falls in love with Orsino. Orsino however loves Olivia, who has been freezing him off for months. Olivia in turn is very interested in Cesario/Viola. When Sebastian, Violas twin brother becomes stranded in Illyria, it's peak chaos.
More kerfuffle is caused by Sir Toby Belch's drinking bouts, Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and Maria, who are absolutely dreaded by steward Malvolio. Soe the three start manipulating the steward, who loves Olivia, making him look crazy.
In Twelfth Night inothing is what it seems, and nobody is who they claim to be. In the end however, there's happy couples galore. Only Malvolio is left cursing the world.
Finishing off the anniversary season, Badische Landesbühne presents Shakespeare's comedy which had been a highlight of the first season 1949/50.
