Monologue by Annalena & Konstantin Küspert
In cooperation Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Baden-Württemberg, the state centre for political education.
A man introduces himself as Wilhelm S., thank the theatre for the invitation. He will be giving a ‘short introduction on autonomy, the journey to independence.’ Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? And a lot of points he offers sound valid. But as the talk goes on, the audience becomes increasingly uneasy: Is this man a Reichsbürger?
Reichsbürger are people who withdraw from the social contract. They don’t accept the legitimacy of the Federal Republic of Germany, replacing it with micro-states, Imperial Chancellors, or emperors. Are they deniers of reality, ideologically deluded oddballs, utopians, or radical extremists? Long discounted as harmless crackpots, their ideology and their acts of violence have become a danger to our democracy.
Annalena and Konstantin Küspert’s monologue explores the movement’s background and poses the question: How much of a Reichsbürger do we have in us?
