A light play about a heavy topic von Esther Becker
Selected performances with German Sign Language interpreters.
There are four snails living in Anna’s front-yard. They hate dogs and cars. But they love beer – just like Anna’s parents. They sit behind the closed kitchen door. lost between too much beer and wine. Sometimes there is a rumble, sometimes a bottle breaks, but for Anna, her parents are but a distant murmur.
What about Anna? She wishes she had a pet, so she wouldn’t be alone. When she discovers a snail on the door handle, things seem to take a turn for the better. Despite being rather self-sufficient, Anna can’t keep up the image of a happy family forever. Luckily, she can always count on her best friend, the pizza deliver guy, even on her snail-hating neighbour. And of course, the snails have her back.
Esther Becker manages to write a witty play about a very difficult issue. The smug choir of snails serves as an ‘accessibility aid’ that is as mischievous as it is profound.
